In its year on the JetBrains Marketplace, Better Backlog Legacy has become one of the most popular YouTrack apps, with teams across the world using it to manage their backlog and sprints more effectively.

Better Backlog Legacy was the first app Adeptask released, and was not built on our modern YouTrack app, with an inflexible codebase requiring substantial wasted effort each time we wanted to add new features.

We also released the app for free. We chose the free model for Better Backlog Legacy for a number of reasons, partly a lack of official support for paid apps in YouTrack, but primarily because we weren't sure if we wanted to create a business focused around building YouTrack apps, and we didn't want to charge people for a product which we might decide to stop developing shortly after releasing.

We are now certain that building high-quality and supported YouTrack apps is the way forward for Adeptask.

That's why we decided to build our new app, Adeptask Better Backlog - Designed from the ground up to support flexible feature development and handle even the largest YouTrack sites with ease, with substantial improvements over Better backlog Legacy, and with major updates to come

Adeptask Better Backlog is priced starting at just €9 per user per year, with a 30-day free trial, progressive pricing for larger YouTrack sites, and is free for all YouTrack sites with up to 10 users.

The future of Better Backlog Legacy

Better Backlog Legacy will remain available for download on the JetBrains Marketplace for the forseeable future. In the event that we do decide to remove the app from the JetBrains marketplace, Better Backlog Legacy will continue to function as expected (on previously supported YouTrack versions).

Whilst we do not plan to continue development on the app, we may still provide patches from time-to-time in the event of serious security issues.

We are also considering open-sourcing Better Backlog Legacy's code, so that organisations who wish to continue using Better Backlog Legacy over the new Adeptask Better Backlog are able to manage security patches for themselves if desired. There is currently no timeline on when/if this might happen, but we would love to hear from you if this would benefit your organisation.

As a paid product, the new Adeptask Better Backlog will be receiving ongoing support, maintenance, and feature updates.
